Founder Stories: Liz Illg On Building Legendary Ideas Group

In today’s Founder Story, we feature  Liz Illg, Founder and CEO of Legendary Ideas Group!

Read on for lessons she has learned from launching and marketing her business.

1. Please introduce your business and share your role.

My name is Liz Illg, founder and CEO of Legendary Ideas Group. LI Group specializes in creating websites and training manuals for growing businesses.

2. What’s your backstory, what kind of challenges did you face, and how did you come up with your business idea?

My entrepreneurship journey started in college when I attended Northern Arizona University. While working towards my bachelor’s degree I also was a pet-sitter. My love for animals turned into my first brick-and-mortar business, Puff and Fluff Spa.

With all new entrepreneurs and new businesses you live and you learn. You make mistakes, and you have setbacks. I took these things that someone may look at as a mistake or a setback as a learning experience. I have now grown this business to 9 locations. With this business venture and everything that I learned, I felt the need to share with other entrepreneurs like myself, how they too could accomplish their dreams. This is how Legendary Ideas Group started.

I started out as a consulting business, helping entrepreneurs to establish and grow their businesses. This then led to me growing a team of experts to help with building websites, creating training manuals, writing monthly content and graphics for clients, and more! LI Group continued to thrive, and we decided it was time to find a niche to be experts in those fields. That is where LI Group stands today, being experts in creating websites and training manuals for growing businesses.

3. How did you prepare for, and go about your launch?

I was able to use my current network of entrepreneurs and friends to get this business started. I attended networking events in my local area, and I started out by helping a few local entrepreneurs and peers to get their businesses up and running. I then used their testimonials and connections to continue to grow Legendary Ideas Group.

4. Since launching, what types of marketing campaigns and designs have worked best to attract and retain customers?

I would say word of mouth. People want to hear real testimonies of those you have worked with and who have had success working with you. Keeping a good rapport with your clients is a big component of your future success.

5. What have been the most influential brands for your business? Whose branding and marketing do you aspire to and why?

Chalene Johnson is who I aspire to be. She is amazing at educating people on branding, how to do it, and the best ways to brand yourself/your business. I love Blueland and Better Booch!

When it comes to both of these companies I love the way they market their products. They use unique ways to get their message out. I am all about Bluelands sustainable and clean products. I not only love Better Booch products personally, but I also love their branding.

6. What are your favorite marketing platforms/tools?

I mostly use Instagram, LinkedIn, and my website to promote my LI Group. We send out newsletters and offer some freebies throughout to help draw in traffic.

7. Who or what inspires and motivates you?

I am motivated by others’ success. I love to watch people’s businesses grow and succeed. Being able to be a part of this process is something I desire.

8. What are some lessons you’ve learned along the way that you would share with entrepreneurs hoping to launch or who have just launched?

Do what you love! When you do what you love, it doesn’t feel like work, and it just comes naturally. People can see and feel your passion when it is what you love, and they are drawn to that.

9. What do you believe are the qualities of a good entrepreneur? And what makes a team successful?

I would say someone who is independent and strong, but is able to delegate and lead others when the time comes and your business is thriving. You have to be organized and detail-oriented, as well. When you start a business things can feel all over the place, but staying organized in the beginning will help you in the long run when you have to grow and expand your team.
